“The Ghost Train” was the first tale of the Night Watchman to appear in the Park Slope Reader, a quarterly newspaper in Brooklyn, New York, which caters primarily to the neighborhoods on the northwest side of Prospect Park.
After the immensely successful Issue Seven (“It Came from the Gowanus Canal…Again!”), we were approached by two different local papers about doing a newspaper strip. Several years later, our relationship with PSR has led to many fun stories, all of which will be reprinted on this Substack. They would also lead to three Ringo Award nominations, but more on that later.
“The Ghost Train” was our way of commemorating the centennial of the Malbone Street wreck, the worst subway train accident in New York City’s history. Coincidentally, it happened at Prospect Park station.
This story will be reprinted in its entirety along with “It’s All Mine!” in Tales of the Night Watchman #12, the first chapter of our epic, forthcoming story arc, “A Dream of Death.” Keep an eye on the minor characters.
