A gentleman always what? You’re about to find out.
A while back, Volumes Bookcafé in Chicago hit hard times. The owners, along with their friend, Pulitzer Prize finalist Rebecca Makkai, came up with the greatest idea for a fundraiser I’d ever heard: Publish a collection of erotic short stories and sell it.
Brilliant.
I don’t remember how it all went down*, but suddenly New York Times-bestselling cartoonist Robin Ha & I were doing a four-page story for it. And guess what? It worked. We all saved Volumes Bookcafé with an anthology called Between the Covers.
Originally published in black & white, I’m excited to debut a color version of this comic eXXXclusively on Substack, tackled by none other than Clare DeZutti.
Volumes is currently going through a metamorphosis. (Aren’t we all?) And their brand-new location opens at 1373 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, 60622 this week.

*Just kidding. I totally asked.
